(Two part episode; part 2)
\r\nWe start part two with learning that Bill Mulder – Mulder’s father was interviewing a surviving member of the original salvage crew who saw their captain infected with the black oil. We also see a young Smoking man standing over them, proving the two used to work together (actually, they dubbed William B. Davis’ voice over with a young actor… pretty obvious hehe). Mulder then also manages to get into another car crash when he’s ran off the road by some guys looking for the tape.

Meanwhile, Skinner is recovering well in Hospital and remembers where he’s seen the shooter before (being attacked in hospital), all of this helps Skinner turn towards Mulder and Scully’s aid when he realises he’s just a pawn in a much larger game, and they will even kill him if he gets in the way. Mulder eventually finds what appears to be a phone number – to the well manicured man, who arranges to meet with him, confirming everything Mulder already knew. At this stage, the object in the bottom of the ocean was a downed UFO, recovered by the US and placed in a missile silo. The black oil is the alien, able to move from host to host.

When its infected Krycek – he recovers the tape, giving it back to Smoking man, in return for the aliens ship – the location of which was given to Mulder and Scully when they find Skinners shooter attempting to shoot Skinner again. Krycek bleeds blackness into the top of the UFO and then finds himself back to normal, unable to escape the silo where it’s being stored. Mulder learns Skinners shooter dies in prison and all is back to good old covering up. It’s strange that at this stage, the black oil only seems to be a liquid form of the alien, moving from host to host, rather then copying onto others. Perhaps this behaviour will change in time.
